ARMAS KALI

What is Armas Kali and what does it mean?:

Armas-Kali is the personal curriculum arrangement, teaching methods & progressions of Guro T. Kent Nelson. It is based on the knowledge passed onto him from his instructors, as well his own personal study, research and discovery through friends and training partners.

Guro T. Kent Nelson, founder of KSK Martial Arts and the Armas-Kali curriculum, began his study of Filipino Martial Arts in 1993, having multiple teachers and influences.

Armas-Kali is inspired from the continual study of several arts. The largest contributor to the Armas-Kali curriculum is the Inosanto-LaCoste Blend.  Most of Guro Kent’s knowledge & training has come through his own personal research,  the guidance of  Guro Dan Inosanto himself, and several years of consistent private instruction under Sifu David Hatch .

Nelson also received his guidance in the teachings of Balintawak Eskrima under Sifu David Hatch as well.  Sifu David Hatch studied Balintawak directly under Manong Ted Buot, who was the top student of the system’s founder, Grand-Master Anciong Bacon.

Armas-Kali translates to “Weapon Hand Motion”.   In Filipino the word “Armas” means “Weapon(s)” or “Armory”.  The word “Kali” is a combination of two other Filipino words. “Ka” comes from the root-word “Kamot”, which means “Hand”, and “Li” comes from the root-word “Lihok” which means “Motion”.

Here at the Mass Academy of Martial Arts we train in the art of Armas Kali under our teacher and Mentor Guro T. Kent Nelson

We are the Boston Affiliate School of the KSK Martial Arts Family.
